Definition, features, and a short history of briar material;

Briar wood originates from a shrub-like tree Known As Erica Arborea and is actually part of the root structure. The plant is native to the Mediterranean Basin, Portugal, The Canary and Madeira Islands. This wood is suitable for making a briar pipe.

Briar wood is fire resistant due to its nature. This tree can withstand up to 700 degrees Fahrenheit. Since briar wood is extremely dense yet porous, the unique combination allows the wood to absorb tar and moisture, resulting in a cool and dry smoking experience. You will enjoy using your handmade black spirit briar pipe with great pleasure.

Blocks of briar wood are submerged in boiling water, which removes any resin and sap that are found within the wood. The blocks of wood are then put into a large kiln, where they dry. The wood is left to age in the kiln for at least a year.

Once the wood is dried and aged, the wood is carved into the desired pipe shape, with a stem added to smoke through.
