About Meerschaum
Meerschaum is a very rare mineral, a kind of hard white clay.
It is mined in single pieces from different depths in the ground, reaching as deep as 380 meters in Eskisehir. The light and porous structure of the pipe keeps the smoke cool and soft.
The pipe itself is a natural filter that absorbs the nicotine. Because of this peculiarity, Meerschaum pipes undergo a slow change of color to various tones of gold and dark brown.
This gives Meerschaum pipes their unique flair aesthetically in addition to their great smoking pleasure. Unlike briar, Meerschaum doesn’t burn, therefore Meerschaum pipes don’t need to be rested after smoked.
Meerschaum pipes don’t need pre-smoking to have good quality performance.
During production, the natural nodules are first scraped to remove the red earthy matrix off of the Meerschaum block. It is then dried, scraped again, carved, and polished with wax.
Meerschaum is the most flavorful and beautiful pipe you can own. Because of this peculiarity, Meerschaum pipes undergo a slow change of color to different tones of gold and dark brown. The longer a pipe is smoked the more valuable it becomes due to the color change. Today many old and rare Meerschaum pipes have found a permanent place in museums and private collections. Meerschaum pipes are generally produced from a monolithic block mined predominantly in Eskisehir, Turkey. It is found as a single piece block at different depths in the ground, reaching as deep as 380 meters.
Blocks mined at greater depths are considered to be of higher quality, while blocks mined closer to the ground of poorer quality.
